President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Aishath Asna Hamdi as the Deputy Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) today.

The appointment was made under the authority vested in the President in accordance with Section 6(3) of the Maldives Monetary Authority Act 1981 (Act No. 6/81).

Asna brings 17 years of experience in central banking and financial sector development. Prior to this appointment, she served as the Head of Financial Sector Development at the MMA.

She holds a Master of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom, obtained in 2014. She earned her Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) from the University of East London in 2007, an Advanced Diploma in Business Administration from the Association of Business Executives (UK) in 2005, and a Diploma and Certificate in Business Administration from the Association of Business Administration (UK), between 2001 and 2003.

Asna received the Technical Leadership Award in 2023 in recognition of her contributions to the field. She has also published multiple academic papers on financial sector development.
