Professor Dr Frank Stangenberg-Haverkamp, Chairman of the Merck Foundation Board of Trustees and Former Chairman of the Executive Board of E. Merck KG, along with Senator, Dr Rasha Kelej, CEO of the Merck Foundation met with First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed. The meeting was held this evening at the Official Residence of the President, Muleeaage.
During the meeting, Professor Dr Stangenberg-Haverkamp and Senator Dr Kelej discussed collaborations with the First Lady to improve the Maldives’ health sector, highlighting areas where Merck programmes could intervene. They detailed scholarship opportunities and programmes aimed at assisting doctors in pursuing training in specialised areas. The First Lady further outlined the healthcare landscape of the Maldives, emphasising the Government’s efforts to enhance the healthcare system.
Before concluding the meeting, the Merck Foundation recognised the First Lady’s efforts to build healthcare capacity, break the stigma associated with infertility, and empower women in the Maldives. They acknowledged First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed as an Ambassador of the Merck Foundation’s “More Than a Mother” programme. This programme works closely with African and Asian First Ladies and women leaders to define policies and interventions to build quality and equitable reproductive and fertility care capacity, break infertility stigma, and raise awareness about infertility prevention and male infertility.
