President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has shared a message on the occasion of World Health Day.
The President’s message reads as follows:
Quote:
As we mark World Health Day 2025, we stand united to reaffirm our commitment to this year’s theme, “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures.” The theme reflects our national efforts and commitment towards improving maternal and child health.
Ensuring the well-being of every citizen is essential for any nation’s prosperity. The Maldives has made significant strides in improving access to essential health services. Prenatal, antenatal, and postnatal care has improved substantially with nearly all mothers giving birth at an established health facility and all deliveries assisted by skilled providers. We continue to strengthen access to emergency obstetric care across the country. Initiatives on immunisation, child nutrition and breastfeeding promotion have been crucial in ensuring healthy development for our children. These milestones would not have been possible without the collaboration of UN agencies, partners and active community involvement. I recognise and applaud our dedicated and tireless healthcare workers in ensuring that every mother and child receives the compassionate and timely care they need.
Nevertheless, challenges persist in realising the Government's vision for a healthier nation. We believe that ongoing work on investing in quality-assured primary healthcare, universal health coverage (UHC) and digitalisation, will significantly bridge the gaps in the healthcare delivery system and ensure equitable access to quality and affordable healthcare services. Such endeavours are crucial in improving maternal and child health outcomes towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
Today, I urge all Maldivians to embrace and invest in healthier lifestyles, encompassing the well-being of mothers, babies, fathers, youth, children, and the elderly in our society. Let us prioritise healthy eating, engage in regular physical activity, focus on mental well-being, as well as refrain from activities that harm our physical and mental health.
I reaffirm the Government's steadfast commitment to continuing to work together with all stakeholders, government, private sector and community to sustain and improve health outcomes by strengthening our health systems to foster a community where every citizen can experience a healthy beginning, paving the way for a healthier, more resilient future.
