President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with members of the ADh Mahibadhoo Island Council and the Women's Development Committee (WDC) to discuss key issues related to the island's development. The meeting took place on Sunday morning at the Secretariat of the South Ariatholhu Atoll Council.
At the meeting, Council members stated that residents wished to launch land reclamation of the island, as well as the establishment of an Islamic Centre. Shore protection and development of sporting sector in the island was also a core issue raised by the Council.
Addressing the meeting, President Dr Muizzu reflected on the decision and plans to develop Mahibadhoo as an urban centre, as well as the benefits from such a centre to development of the area. He also noted that housing schemes would be started in the island. He shared with the Council areas on which the Government needed cooperation from the Council, adding that the Council should seek public consultation to develop a master plan for Maafaru lagoon.
