President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that 2025 will be the year with the most housing construction programmes implemented within a single year.

The President made this statement whilst speaking at a meeting with residents of Himmafushi during his current tour of Male' Atoll islands.

The President highlighted that housing is a significant issue in this region, and although a land reclamation programme was carried out in Himmafushi, housing remains crucial for making optimal use of this land. In his speech, he mentioned that the Government's foremost priority next year will be implementing housing programmes, followed by improvements in the education and healthcare sectors. He noted that Himmafushi also has requirements in these two areas.

He stated that several school-related works and healthcare service expansion programmes will be implemented next year under the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP)'s New Policy Initiative.

At the meeting, the President addressed the issue of damaged roads across multiple islands. He indicated that the Government has prioritised the installation of water and sewerage systems before undertaking road construction projects – road construction will commence only in islands where these essential infrastructure systems are complete. Looking ahead to next year, the President confirmed that in line with his manifesto commitments, the construction of main roads across numerous islands will receive priority attention.

Furthermore, he outlined plans to launch economic development initiatives in collaboration with the council, focusing on sectors of interest to residents, including local tourism, fishing, agriculture and other industries.

The President assured that the Government will pay considerable attention to Himmafushi's development and implement important programmes for the residents within the next year.

Following this meeting, in a separate ceremony, the President inaugurated WAMCO's safe waste management service establishment in Himmafushi.
