Honourable Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana, the Speaker of Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka paid a courtesy call on His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. The meeting was held at the President's Office on Tuesday.
The President welcomed the Speaker to the Maldives and noted the long-standing friendly relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka. In the discussions, the President expressed his desire for a peaceful Presidential election, and positive results that would contribute to the development and prosperity of Sri Lanka.
The Maldives established diplomatic relations with Sri Lanka on July 26, 1965, immediately after the Maldives gained independence.
