The Chief Spokesperson for the President's Office, Heena Waleed, announced that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu will depart tomorrow to attend the Fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS). This visit was announced during a press conference regarding the Fourth International Conference on SIDS with the Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, Thoriq Ibrahim, and the Special Envoy for Climate Change, Ali Shareef, at the President's Office today.
The Chief Spokesperson, the Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, and the Special Envoy for Climate Change discussed the significance of the conference and the Government's key objectives for the people and the nation. They additionally relayed details on the three side events organised by the Maldives and the significant events organised by relevant Government institutions at the SIDS.
The Fourth International Conference on SIDS is scheduled to take place in Antigua and Barbuda from May 27 to 30 under the theme, "Charting the Course Towards Resilient Prosperity." Following the theme, this year's SIDS Conference will concentrate on clearing the path for small, environmentally fragile nations to attain sustainability and prosperity.
The United Nations (UN) holds the International Conference on SIDS every ten years. President Dr Muizzu is scheduled to deliver the National Statement at the Fourth International Conference on SIDS. In addition, he is expected to deliver a statement regarding the effects of climate change and the necessity of taking measures to mitigate them.
