Highlighting the fisheries industry as a key focus for expansion and advancement, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has disclosed ongoing efforts to settle all outstanding payments owed to fishermen before the start of the holy month of Ramadan. The President made these remarks while addressing the residents of Dhuvaafaru Island, North Maalhosmadulu Atoll.
Speaking at the gathering, the President expressed the Administration's commitment to implementing a mechanism to disburse payments owed to fishermen within 48 hours, once the backlog has been cleared.
At the meeting, the President emphasised the Government’s efforts to broaden the tax base. In this regard, he highlighted potential areas for expanding the tax base, such as completing resort infrastructure and increasing investments in the tourism sector. He emphasized that the tax base would grow with the expansion of Tourism Goods and Services Tax (TGST) due to the tourism sector's growth.
At today's meeting, the President reiterated his dedication to addressing the needs of the people. He committed to waiving fees on popular tricycle pickup trucks starting next month, aiming to provide convenience to residents using such vehicles and encouraging the use of environmentally friendly options.
Dhuvaafaru marks the President's fourth destination on his tour of several North and South Maalhosmadulu Atoll islands.
