President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with the members of the HDh. Vaikaradhoo Island Council and the Women's Development Committee (WDC). The meeting was held at the Secretariat of the South Thiladhunmathi Atoll Council on Monday night.
During the meeting, the Council noted the most pressing issue on the island as the shortage of housing units. The members additionally emphasised that many residents migrated due to a lack of employment opportunities on the island. As such, the Council implored the Administration to work towards providing employment opportunities for the island's residents and requested that the Administration construct modern roads and establish a mosque on the island. They further suggested developing the tourism sector and expressed the desire to bring an uninhabited island under the jurisdiction of Vaikaradhoo Island.
Speaking at the meeting, the WDC of Vaikaradhoo Island expressed the resources needed to develop the sports sector for women.
In response, the President said that the Administration would focus on the issues raised by the Council. The Ministers in attendance shared the latest updates on the Government's efforts on the issues raised by the Council.
