President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with the members of the HA. Hoarafushi Island Council and the Women's Development Committee (WDC). The meeting was held at the Secretariat of the Hoarafushi Council.
During the meeting, the Council emphasised advancing the iHaven project, implementing a modern waste management system to tackle waste disposal issues, addressing ice shortages from the ice plant, and initiating projects allocated for this year promptly. Additionally, the Council conveyed concerns regarding the halted projects. The Council noted the need for land reclamation to address the housing needs of the residents.
The WDC members expressed concerns over budget constraints.
In response, the President acknowledged the budgetary constraints as a common concern for WDCs across all islands. He reiterated that resolving this issue is within the legal framework and promised to work towards achieving this goal. The Ministers in attendance provided updates on the concerns and projects highlighted by the Council. The President also noted that projects would be initiated in accordance with the increase in state revenue, and the government would make every effort to address the issues raised by the Council.
