On the recommendation of the the Cabinet, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Tuesday decided that the official receptions for National Farmers' Day and World Food Day would be held on Kaashidhoo Island in Kaafu Atoll this year.
The decision was made at today’s Cabinet meeting after deliberating on a paper submitted by the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture.
President Solih declared 15 October as the National Farmers’ Day in 2020. The following day, 16 October, is celebrated internationally as World Food Day.
Farmers' Day is celebrated to recognise the hard work of farmers and increase public interest in agriculture. The primary goal of nationally commemorating National Farmer's Day is to recognise farmers' efforts and contributions to ensuring food security. The day further aims to promote the farming vocation while also connecting the day to World Food Day, allowing farmers to showcase their products and plan events in conjunction with the days.
