President Mohamed Nasheed has reiterated that his government would not interfere with the people’s right to criticise the government. He made this statement while speaking at a function held last night to meet with the Maldivian community in the UK. The function was held at the Hyatt Regency where the President and the First Lady are staying during their current official visit to the UK.

Speaking further, the President said that his government was committed to fulfil its electoral pledges to the people. He also said that the government was open for criticisms and that the government welcomed all criticisms towards its policies.

The function was attended by Maldivians working and studying in the UK. The President and the First Lady met with them and inquired about their wellbeing.
