President Nasheed has today ratified the bill on Road Traffic, which was passed by the People’s Majlis in its 13th sitting. Following ratification, the Bill has been published in the Government Gazette.
Road Traffic Act specifies among other things, the registration, driving and safety of vehicles.
According to the bill, fines will charged for those who broke the traffic laws such as running a red light, or going through a one-way street illegally. For running a red light, Rf500 would be charged for a first offence, Rf1000 for second and Rf1500 for every other time.
