President Nasheed has said that his administration has no plans to resettle the people of An’golhitheemu to another island. The President made this statement this evening at a meeting with the people of An’golhitheemu.

Noting that the Maldives now has a multi-party political system, the President said that it would be difficult to govern without a majority of seats in the People’s Majlis.

Furthermore, the President said the people of the Maldives will have their right to freedom of expression and assured that his government would respect the people’s rights.

The President is currently on a tour to North Maalhosmadulu Atoll.
