President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has today appointed two new Justices to the Supreme Court of the Maldives, Hon Uz Ali Rasheed Hussain, and Hon Dr Mohamed Ibrahim.
President Solih presented the new Justices with their letters of appointment at a ceremony held today at the President's Office. Their oaths of office were administered by the Chief Justice of the Maldives' Supreme Court, Hon Uz Ahmed Muthasim Adnan.
Uz Ali Rasheed Hussain holds a Bachelor's of Shari'ah and Law from Al-Azhar University, Egypt. He most recently served as a judge at the Criminal Court of Maldives and had previously served as a judge at the Drug Court of Maldives and as the Chief Judge of the Civil Court of Maldives.
Dr Mohamed Ibrahim completed his Doctorate in Islamic Commercial Law from the University of Malaya, in Malaysia. He is a council member at the Islamic University of Maldives and a member of the Shari'ah Committee of Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC). Dr Mohamed Ibrahim most recently served as a partner of Premier Chambers.
President Solih had sent the names of the two Justices for Parliamentary consideration on 19 August, under the powers vested in him as per Article 148 of the Maldives' Constitution.
