Vice President Faisal Naseem has urged for the contribution of everyone towards promoting Maldivian workmanship. The Vice President made the call, speaking at the function held to launch ‘Fannu Expo 2019’—the national arts and crafts exhibition organised by the Ministry of Economic Development. The ceremony was held tonight at the National Art Gallery.
Highlighting the rich culture and traditions of the Maldives, the Vice President emphasised the creativity and vibrant workmanship observed from all across the country. Pondering on the reasons behind a lack of efforts to promote such work, the Vice President noted the administration’s efforts to encourage such talent, which he said demonstrates the Maldivian national identity in the international stage. He further emphasised the importance of cultivating such skills through the education system.
Speaking about the role of the youth in this endeavour, the Vice President called upon the members of the youth to be more diligent; to work and be self-sufficient and contribute towards economic development. He further urged the youth, especially women entrepreneurs, to realise the full potential of Fannu Expo and other such opportunities.
The five-day exhibition will be held from 22nd to 28th of November in Dharubaaruge, Kalaafaanu School and the Children’s Park. It will act as a venue to showcase and market creative arts and craftsmanship. It will feature 250 stalls exhibiting items in 77 different categories; handicraft, fisheries, transportation, construction, culinary arts, literature, fashion and design, Information and Communication Technology, etc. It is expected to attract over 15,000 visitors.
