Emphasizing the importance of time at hand, President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has stated that he does not want to waste even a single day in his work for development, and assured the public that his first priority is take the Maldives to a whole new level development.

The President made this remark while speaking at the function held this evening to mark the completion of the airport land reclamation project, and inauguration of airport development project in Funadhoo Island of North Miladhummadulu Atoll.

The airport development project in Funadhoo consists of a 1200 meter long runway, and a 90 meter long taxiway.

While addressing today’s gathering, the President stated that this administration’s manifesto was compiled focusing on bringing about advancement, by resolving the challenges faced by the people.

Moreover, President Yameen stated that along with the substantial development brought to the country, human development was equally important for the country’s progress. Speaking in this regard, the President stated that the hope of all Maldivians should always be to seek improvement and advancement in one’s own life.

Shedding light on the mega developmental projects carried out by this administration the President stated that the need for developing airports in almost every corner of the country is to expand the tourism sector throughout the country, rather than clustering it to the same area. He further stated that this would in turn ensure that more Maldivians would benefit from the tourism industry. Moreover the President stated that the policies of this administration are aimed at economic development which would highlight Maldives in the international arena.

The President is currently on a two day visit to some Islands of North Miladhummadulu Atoll. As part of his visit, President Yameen attended the ceremony to mark the completion of beach protection project in Bileffahi Island and inaugurated the harbour of Kanditheemu Island. The President is also scheduled to visit Milandhoo Island and inaugurate the island’s sewerage services.
