President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to women in leadership, stating that the nation firmly believes in a future shaped by women and girls.

In a post on his official X account to mark the International Day of Women in Diplomacy, the President said it is with utmost pride that the Maldives commemorates this day, as one of the United Nations Member States that spearheaded its adoption. He called for greater recognition of the critical role women play in shaping foreign policy and reaffirmed the country’s support for inclusive leadership in diplomacy.

Expanding on this, he noted that the International Day of Women in Diplomacy is a vital acknowledgement of the contributions women have made to the diplomatic landscape. The Maldives, he added, has consistently championed gender equality and continues to set a precedent for inclusive leadership.

The President said commemorating this day honours trailblazers and reinforces global commitment to dismantling systemic barriers that hinder women’s participation. It is a day to recognise the resilience and courage of women who sit at negotiating tables, walk the halls of power, and speak in rooms not originally built for their voices.

Concluding his message, President Dr Muizzu stated that women will lead and shape a future where they are not only represented, but are respected, heard, and celebrated as essential architects of global peace and progress.
