President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has stated that Maldives is a country with the capability to strive for development in the same line as more powerful nations, despite our small size as a country. He made this remark while speaking at the function held this evening to inaugurate the harbour and clean drinking water supply network in Guraidhoo Island of Male’ Atoll.
While addressing the gathering, the President underscored that Maldives is a country with scarce natural resources. However he stated that during the past 4 years, the current administration managed to multiply the per capita income of Maldives several times over, and urged the public to ponder upon this achievement.
Speaking in this regard the President shed light on some of the major projects carried out by the current administration, and shared information on upcoming projects ready to commence, which would in turn create more job opportunities for Maldivians.
Moreover, President Yameen stated that no outsider will be as committed as a Maldivian in the advancement of the country or in increasing the country’s resources. He requested for the opportunity to carry out the developmental projects planned by the administration without hindrance.
Along with the President, members of the cabinet, some members of the parliament and a large number of the public were in attendance at this evening’s function.
The President is currently on a one day visit to 3 Islands of Male’ Atoll. As part of his visit President Yameen has inaugurated the harbour of Thulusdhoo Island, took part in the ceremony held to mark the completion of the beach protection project in Maafushi Island and inaugurated Guraidhoo island’s harbour and clean drinking water supply network.
