The Non-resident Ambassador of Ukraine, His Excellency Igor Polikha, presented his Letter of Credence to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, this morning, at the President’s Office.

At the ceremony, the President welcomed Ambassador Polikha to the Maldives and congratulated him for presenting his credentials as the new Ambassador of Ukraine.

During the call, the President reflected on over two decades of bilateral relations between the Maldives and Ukraine. Diplomatic relations between the two countries was established on 17 August 1993. He conveyed assurances of the Government’s continued commitment to working closely with Ukraine and expressed hope that the existing relations between the Maldives and Ukraine will go from strength to strength in the coming years.

The Ambassador noted that it was an honour and a privilege to be appointed as the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Maldives. He expressed confidence that the Government of Maldives will extend the necessary support and cooperation during his term to achieve goals of mutual interest for both countries.

The President was accompanied at the call by the Minister of State for Foreign Relations at the President’s Office, H.E. Mohamed Naseer and the Foreign Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed.
