President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, while speaking at the the event commemorating the conclusion of land reclamation in Malé Atoll’s Thulusdhoo Island, has stated that serving the people is to ascertain needs and to deliver on those needs.
In his speech, the President stated that any development Maldives witnesses should be accepted as one for each and every individual and that all Maldivians should partake in such achievements.
The President highlighted that when issues related to the needs of women are resolved and the basic requirements of the youth are fulfilled, two key pledges of the Administration would be properly addressed.
Also, the President noted that not all development projects were aimed at a specific region; rather some are being carried out to increase drive and intellectual prowess.
Additionally, the President highlighted the importance of collective personal contributions to the society in contributing and augmenting development projects that are underway.
The President also stated that the Administration gives great importance to youth development; reason being youth are the future of the nation. Speaking along these lines, the President added that investing in youth is an investment for the future of Maldives – providing shelter, protecting their rights and providing educational opportunities are all investments that are being made for the better future of the nation.
At today’s ceremony, the President was presented with a special honorary plaque in recognition of his services, which was presented by the head of Thulusdhoo Council, Mr. Ahmed Anees.
The President was accompanied by Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who also addressed the gathering, along with Vice President of the Progressive Party of Maldives and Parliament Member of Fonadhoo constituency Hon. Abdul Raheem Abdullah and other Government officials.
A total of 10 million US Dollars was spent by the Administration for the 33 hectare land reclamation project on Thulusdhoo Island.
