President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a condolence message to the Prime Minister of Thailand, His Excellency Prayut Chan-o-cha, following the demise of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

The President’s message reads as follows:

“It is with deep sadness that I received the news of the passing away of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. As the longest serving monarch of the Kingdom of Thailand, His Majesty’s immense contributions towards the progress and prosperity of Thailand, particularly towards the betterment of the rural poor will always be remembered.”

“A visionary leader who by his own initiative and demonstration, has transformed the plight of many farming communities in Thailand facing difficulties due to land degradation and water shortages, by demonstrating sustainable methods of agriculture, including water conservation. His Majesty has gained the deep love and affection of his people.”

“At this time of national mourning in Thailand, the Government and the people of Maldives and I personally join you, the Government and the people of Thailand in sharing your profound grief.”

“Please also extend our sincere condolences to the members of the Royal Family.”
