President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has appealed to all Maldivian people not to oppose the Government’s developmental projects, based on their political views. The President made this appeal today, while addressing the people of Maavah Island of Haddhummathi Atoll. He noted that the developmental projects were carried out for the prosperity of the people, and not for the Government’s benefit.
Prior to meeting the citizens of Maavah, President Yameen inaugurated Masjid Bilaal, a mosque constructed in the island with grant aid from the Saudi Arabian Government. In his speech, the President thanked the Saudi Government on behalf of the Maldivian people and on his own behalf, for their assistance in all areas of development of the country.
Speaking at the function, the President underscored that one of his administration’s main priorities was to ensure the Maldives gets the respect and courtesy we deserve in the international arena. He reiterated the Government’s stance to not allow any foreign parties to interfere with our domestic affairs.
In his speech, the President highlighted the developmental projects being planned for the Island of Maavah. He also requested all the citizens to support and cooperate with the Government in carrying out these projects.
President Yameen also spoke on the Government’s endeavours being undertaken for the betterment of the youth. In this regard, the President noted the work being done to provide affordable housing and more employment opportunities for the youth.
The President was accompanied on his visit to Maavah by Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Ahmed Ziyad, Minister of Environment and Energy Hon. Thoriq Ibrahim, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, and Minister of Tourism Hon. Moosa Zameer.
