President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has stated that military officers should not only be prepared for a terrorism threat, but also for intellectual threats. The President stated this while addressing the special function held at Kalhuthukkalaakoshi on Sunday night to celebrate the 124th Anniversary of Maldives National Defence Force.

While speaking at the function, the President stated that currently, the most crucial issues faced by the whole world was terrorism and that the establishment of the National Counter Terrorism Center would enhance the work by the MNDF against terrorism.

The President also said a military court would soon be established in the Maldives; that such a court would hold officers accountable.

Additionally, the President stated that those trying to influence the state outside of the law should take the responsibility for its negative impact to the people of the nation.

In addition, the President stated that we should learn from the terrorist acts that had taken place in the past and be prepared for any such threat that we might experience. Speaking in this manner, the President stated that the officers of MNDF are provided with the latest state-of-the-art technology for such preparedness.

The President pointed to the hard work done by officers of MNDF in serving the nation and thanked the families of the officers for their support.

At the function, the President presented officers and units who displayed outstanding performance during the past year with a special honorary award.

The function was attended by First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim, Minister of Defence and National Security, Hon. Adam Shareef Umar, Chief of Defence Force, Major General Ahmed Shiyam, Members of the Cabinet, Government Officials and MNDF officers of different levels.
