- 1st November 2016 marks 51 years of diplomatic relations between India and Maldives.

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has called on the President of India His Excellency Pranab Mukherjee during his official visit to India. The meeting took place at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday evening.
At the meeting, President Yameen emphasized that the existing bilateral relationship between both countries is marked by mutual respect and goodwill towards one another. He also underlined the fact that 1st of November 2016 will mark 51 years, since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Maldives and India.
During the meeting the Presidents discussed the importance of properly addressing the growing threat of radicalism and terrorism.
President Yameen further outlined his vision of strengthening good governance and strengthening the democratic systems within the Maldives by working with India and other external partners.
Upon conclusion of the meeting, the President of India His Excellency Pranab Mukherjee presented a book authored by him to President Yameen.
The President is accompanied on the official visit by Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon. Dunya Maumoon, Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Dr. Mohamed Shainee, High Commissioner to India from Maldives Mr. Ahmed Mohamed and Under Secretary at the Presidents’ Office Mr. Mohamed Naseer.
