President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said that the National Master Plan for Strengthening of Governance would be implemented by the Government. The President stated this while addressing a special function held on Sunday night to mark the 83rd Anniversary of Maldives Police Service.
In his speech, the President stated that within the year, a Military Court will be established with the help of the Government of Singapore. He also stated that to enhance the quality of service given by the Police, the Government will provide the required equipment for their technical tasks.
During the speech the President stated that the Police were fulfilling an important national duty and that, similar to civilians, even though sometimes overlooked, Police officers are also human and have rights. Additionally, the President said that the citizens have the right to protest, but that willful confrontations against police create tension within the community.
At the function, the President awarded a special plaque in the memory of late Uz. Abdulla Hameed for establishing the modern Police service and his remarkable services to introduce Police services to the atolls during his tenure as Minister of Atolls Administration. Also, the President awarded the Honorary Plaque and President’s Medal for the Officers who have served for more than 25 years and for those with remarkable performance in service during the last year.
Apart from the President, Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Umar Naseer addressed the Attendees of the function.
The President was accompanied by Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Umar Naseer, Ministers of the Cabinet, Governmental Officials and Police Officers of different ranks.
