President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has stated that he does not want Maldivians to seek shelter in a concrete jungle during his term of Presidency. The President stated this while addressing the attendees of the special ceremony held tonight to open Male’ west coast area named “Rasfannu”.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President stated that it was essential for all islands to be a safe environment and that the beaches should be places in which not only the children but also people of all ages breathe fresh air and find peace of mind. He stated his hope that the new beach inaugurated tonight would bring such happiness to the citizens.
In his speech, the President said that, since Maldives is an island nation with Male’ being the capital and therefore representing a large portion of the population, it was important that there be displays of “Holhu’ashi” and “Joalifathi”; representative of our cultural relationship.
The President inaugurated the beach with the striking of the special “Beru”presented to him by a fleet of bandsmen. At the ceremony, the President was presented with a special album showcasing the work that was carried out to develop the area. This album was presented to the President by Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. At the function, the President unveiled the name of the west coast as; “Rasfannu”. This new artificial beach is twice the size of that of Henveiru's. When the project “Rasfannu” is complete, the area will consist of a fishing area, a barbeque area, shower area for swimmers and a pavilion.
In addition to the President, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Member of Parliament representing West Maafannu, Mr. Ahmed Rifaau also addressed the attendees.
The President was accompanied by the First Lady Madam Fathimath Ibrahim, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, members of the cabinet, some members of the parliament and governmental officials.
