The non-resident Ambassador of North Korea to the Maldives, Kye Chun Yong has presented his credentials to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, on Thursday morning.
At the ceremony held at the President’s Office to present the credentials, President Yameen congratulated Ambassador Yong on the commencement of his term.
Meeting the new Ambassador afterwards, the President expressed his his hopes of further strengthening the good relations between the Maldives and North Korea.
President Yameen and Ambassador Yong noted the importance of further enhancing the bilateral relations between Maldives and North Korea, especially in the areas of economic and development cooperation. Discussions were also held on the issue of climate change, and other environmental concerns.
Speaking at the meeting, the North Korean Ambassador said that it was a privilege to be appointed as the Ambassador to the Maldives, and assured the President of Noth Korea’s continued support and assistance to the Maldives.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Dunya Maumoon, and Minister at the President’s Office, Hon. Mohamed Hussain Shareef.
