The new non-resident High Commissioner of Singapore to the Maldives, H.E. Chua Thian Poh has presented his credentials to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, on Thursday morning.
At the ceremony held at the President’s Office to present the credentials, President Yameen congratulated High Commissioner Poh on the commencement of his term.
Meeting the new High Commissioner afterwards, the President expressed his hopes of further strengthening the good relations between the Maldives and Singapore, noting that it was a prime destination for many Maldivians, for educational and medical purposes.
President Yameen and the High Commissioner noted the importance of further enhancing the bilateral relations between Maldives and Singapore, in areas of mutual interest. Discussions were also held on the foreign investment opportunities in the Maldives.
At the meeting, President Yameen expressed his gratitude to the Singaporean Government for the continuous support provided to the Maldives. He also noted that the Maldives and Singapore worked closely on regional and international fronts, and shared similar views on many global issues.
Speaking at the meeting, the Singaporean High Commissioner said that it was a privilege to be appointed as the High Commissioner to the Maldives, and assured the President of his commitment to building on the existing bilateral relations between the two countries, during his tenure.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Dunya Maumoon, and Minister at the President’s Office, Hon. Mohamed Hussain Shareef.
