President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has welcomed the Maldivian contingent who took part in this year’s Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG). The President met with the athletes and officials of the Maldivian contingent, on arrival at the President’s Office this afternoon.
At a ceremony held at the President’s Office, it was announced that President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has decided to award cash prizes for the athletes who won medals in their respective categories. In this regard, it was announced that athletes who won gold medal in individual sports will be awarded a cash prize of MVR 250,000, the athletes who won silver medal will be awarded a cash prize of MVR 100,000, and the athletes who won bronze medal will be awarded a cash prize of MVR 20,000.
Furthermore, each athlete who competed in team sports and won gold medal will be awarded a cash prize of MVR 35,000, athletes who won silver medal in team sports will be awarded a cash prize of MVR 25,000, and those who won bronze medal in their team event will be awarded a cash prize of MVR 15,000.
Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Ahmed Zuhoor awarded the prizes to the athletes.
