The new Ambassador of Japan designated to the Maldives, H.E. Mr Kenichi Suganuma has presented his credentials to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, on Wednesday morning.
At the ceremony held at the President’s Office to present the credentials, President Yameen congratulated Ambassador Suganuma on the commencement of his term. Meeting the new Ambassador afterwards, the President and the Ambassador discussed ways to further strengthen ties between the Maldives and Japan.
The President thanked the Japanese Government for their continuous assistance provided to the Maldives in all areas, especially for their aid following the 2004 tsunami. The President also briefed the Ambassador on the progress of the Hulhumale development project, and noted the increase in Japanese tourists visiting the Maldives.
At the meeting, the Japanese Ambassador commended President Yameen for his vision for the dveloment of the country. He further assured the President of Japan’s continued support and assistance to the Maldives.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Dunya Maumoon, and Minister at the President’s Office, Hon. Mohamed Hussain Shareef.
