President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim have attended the special flag-hoisting ceremony held on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of National Independence. The ceremony was held at the Republic Square, at 00:00hrs on Sunday morning.
Upon their arrival at the Republic Square, the President and the First Lady were greeted by Minister of Defence and National Security, Major General (Ret) Moosa Ali Jaleel, and Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Umar Naseer. A bugle call was sounded on arrival of the President and the First Lady, at the Republic Square.
At the ceremony, the flag hoisting was followed by a 21-Gun Salute, after which the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) played the National Anthem.
Addressing the nation at the ceremony, President Yameen appealed to everyone to prevent even the slightest act of interference on the sovereignty of our country.
At the ceremony, local artists along with the MNDF performed the theme song for the Golden Jubilee of National Independence being celebrated this year.
A commemorative banknote was also launched at the ceremony, on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of National Independence. Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority, Dr. Azeema Adam presented the commemorative note to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
