President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim have this evening attended the grand re-opening of the Republic Square, Jumhooree Maidhaan. The Republic Square was renovated and re-opened on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee anniversary of the Maldives’ Independence being celebrated this year.
The Republic Square was officially re-opened by a team representing different sectors of the country; including students, athletes, and various other professionals.
The water fountain at Jumhooree Maidhaan was also re-opened at the ceremony this evening, following its redesign into a contemporary musical fountain.
