President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said that the ‎honour, dignity and sovereignty of the nation is dependent ‎on the diligent ‎efforts of the Maldivian Military. The President ‎made this statement while ‎speaking at the oath taking ceremony of the graduates of the 61st basic ‎training course conducted by the Defence Institute for Training of Maldives ‎National Defence Force (MNDF). ‎

Speaking at the ceremony, President underscored the important ‎role of MNDF to defend the nation, uphold rule of law, safeguard the ‎Islamic faith and maintain the sovereignty of the state. President further ‎urged the officials to be vigilant of external influences that may corrupt ‎their minds, and hinder their performances.‎

Underlining the duty of MNDF to defend the nation from various ‎external and internal threats, President Yameen especially stressed on the ‎threats arising due to the current political tension in the country. In this ‎regard, President Yameen called on the newly sworn officers to abide by ‎their oath, and comply with the directives given by superiors to protect the ‎nation from such threats. ‎

At today’s ceremony, the MNDF oath was administered by ‎Supreme Court Judge Uz. Abdulla ‎Areef. ‎

Minister of Defence and National Security, Major General (Retired) ‎Moosa Ali Jaleel and ‎Chief of Defence Forces and Major General Ahmed ‎Shiyam were in attendance at the ceremony, along with other senior officials of ‎MNDF. ‎
