The new Polish Ambassador accredited to the Maldives, H.E. Tomasz Łukaszuk presented his letter of credence to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom this morning.

At the ceremony held at the President’s Office to present the credentials, President Yameen congratulated Ambassador Łukaszuk on the commencement of his term. Following the ceremony, the President and the ‎Ambassador discussed ways to further enhance existing bilateral relations between the Maldives and Poland, and explored new avenues ‎for cooperation.

Highlighting that the Maldives and Poland have always supported each other in the international arena, President Yameen discussed with Ambassador Łukaszuk, issues of mutual concern. Further, the President said that his administration was working on a pledge to improve the economics of the country.

At the meeting, Ambassador Tomasz Łukaszuk said that it was a privilege to serve as the new Ambassador to the Maldives, and assured the President of his firm commitment to strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries. He also assured the President of the Polish Government’s continuous support and assistance to the Maldives. In this regard, the Ambassador enquired on the areas Poland could contribute to the development of the Maldives.

Highlighting the global environmental matters, Ambassador Łukaszuk briefed the President on Poland’s active role in protecting the global environment, and combating climate change. He reiterated Poland’s support to the Maldives in its efforts against climate change.

At the meeting, the Polish Ambassador also commended the role of SAARC in the South Asian region, expressing his confidence in the organisation’s success in the future. He also conveyed that Poland was keen to contribute to the development of the South Asian region.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Dunya Maumoon.
