The new Ambassador of Cuba to the Maldives, Florentino Batista Gonzalez, has presented his credentials to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, on Monday morning.
At the ceremony held at the President’s Office to present the credentials, President Yameen congratulated Ambassador Gonzalez on the commencement of his term.
Meeting the new Ambassador afterwards, the President and the Ambassador discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, and explored the possibilities of further enhancing these relations in the areas of health and education.
President Yameen and Ambassador Gonzalez stressed on the common challenges faced by the Maldives and Cuba, both as small states and in the issues faced in the global political arena. In this regard Ambassador Gonzalez welcomed the role of the Maldives in raising global awareness on the threats posed by climate change and the consolidation of human rights.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Dunya Maumoon.
