The United National Resident Coordinator in the Maldives, Ms. Shoko Noda, has on Thursday called on Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed.
At the meeting held at the President’s Office on Wednesday morning, Vice President Jameel extended his appreciation to the UN for its continued support and assistance to the development of the socio-economic sectors of the country.
Underscoring the Government commitment to providing social security and protection to the most vulnerable in society, Vice President Jameel briefed the UN Resident Coordinator of the extensive programs undertaken by the Government to consolidate the social, legal and judicial frameworks of the country. In this regard, Vice President Jameel explored avenues for greater engagement from the United Nations in the Government initiatives to transform the judiciary, empower women, and in the protection of the rights of children.
Noting that the Maldives was at important crossroads of development, the UN Resident Coordinator commended the Government for its impressive developmental agenda. she also reiterated the commitment of the UN to offer technical and other assistance to the Maldives to overcome the challenges faced by the country.
The meeting was attended by Hon. Abdulla Ameen, Minister at the President’s Office.
