President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has attended the official function ‎held to mark the International Day of People with Disability. The function ‎was held on Wednesday morning at Kalaafaanu School. ‎

At the ceremony, President Yameen presented letters of employment to ‎persons with disabilities, offered by state-owned companies. In this regard, ‎‎10 individuals were offered employment from State Trading Organisation ‎‎(STO), State Electric Company (STELCO), Thilafushi Corporation, and the ‎Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).‎

At the ceremony, First Lady Madam Fathimath Ibrahim launched the ‎Medical and Travel concessionary card for persons with disabilities, and ‎inaugurated the special discount program ‘Dharumaverivaashe’ introduced ‎by the Government to facilitate ease of access and usage to persons with ‎disabilities. First Lady also launched the ‘Eheetheriya’ Program, introduced ‎by Maldivian, the national airline. Under this program, persons with ‎disability are eligible for a 15 percent discount when purchasing tickets ‎from the airline.‎

Attorney General Ahmed Anil presented the official badges and certificates ‎for the Ambassadors of Disability.‎
