Ambassador of the United States to the Maldives, Michele J. Sison, has paid her farewell call on President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. The meeting was held on Tuesday morning at the President’s Office.
At the meeting, President Yameen expressed his appreciation for Ambassador Sison’s contribution in strengthening relations between the Maldives and US, during her tenure as the Ambassador.
The President and the Ambassador discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to strengthen these ties. In this regard, they explored avenues to further enhance the cooperation between the two countries, especially in the areas of education, human development and diplomacy. They also noted the importance of building people to people relations between Maldives and USA.
Noting that the two countries have been able to deepen bilateral relations during her tenure, Ambassador Sison said that it had been a pleasure to serve the Maldives. She further commended the President’s remarkable achievements during his first year in office.
President Yameen was joined at the call by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Dunya Maumoon, Minister at the President’s Office, Hon. Mohamed Hussain Shareef and the Foreign Secretary, Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed.
