President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have re-affirmed their commitment to further strengthening relations between Maldives and India, while meeting on Wednesday in Kathmandu, on the sidelines of the 18th SAARC Summit.
Emphasizing the long-standing ties between the neighbouring countries, President Yameen expressed his gratitude to the Indian Government for their continued support and assistance to the Maldives. The President further stated that the Maldives is eager to continue working in partnership with India in various areas of development, and explored opportunities to increase Indian assistance towards the country’s health sector.
In this regard, Prime Minister Modi asserted that India would continue supporting the Maldives in areas that are prioritised by the Maldivian Government.
