New United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, Ms. Shoko Noda has presented her credentials to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
Speaking at the meeting held at the President’s Office this morning, the President welcomed the new Resident Coordinator and congratulated her on the commencement of her term.
The President noted the instrumental role played by the UN system in the Maldives in its developmental endeavours. Highlighting the key electoral pledges of the Governmnet, President Yameen briefed the new Resident Coordinator on the priority areas of the Govermnmet. He also expressed confidence of continued UN support for the Maldives in the future.
At the meeting Ms. Noda assured the President of UN’s commitment to working with the Maldives. Underlining the notable developmental milestones achieved by the Maldives, the UN Resident Coordinator said that UN development projects were aligned with the Government’s pledges and priority areas.
Discussions were also held on the programmes being carried out in the Maldives by the UN system.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Dunya Maumoon, and Minister at the President’s Office, Hon. Mohamed Hussain Shareef.
