The Government of the Republic of Maldives has held the official welcoming ceremony for the visiting Chinese President, H.E. Mr. Xi Jinping and First Lady, Madam Peng Liyuan. The ceremony was held this morning at the Republic Square.
The Chinese President and First Lady were greeted on arrival at the Male’ Official Jetty, by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and First Lady Madam Fathimath Ibrahim.
A bugle call was sounded on arrival of the Chinese President and First Lady, after which President Yameen accompanied the visiting President to the saluting dais, and a 21-Gun Salute was offered; followed by which the national anthems of China and Maldives were played. President Xi then proceeded to inspect a Guard of Honour by the Maldives National Defence Force.
At the ceremony, President Xi was introduced to the Vice President, Cabinet Ministers, and other senior officials of the Maldivian Government. The members of the Chinese delegation were then introduced to President Yameen.
