Addressing the people of Hithadhoo Island on Wednesday ‎evening, President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has announced of the ‎Government plan to begin the implementation of the sewerage system ‎project of the islands in Addu City this year. Speaking in this regard, the ‎President noted that the Government plans to allocate USD 17 million from ‎the grant received from the OPEC Fund for International Development ‎‎(OFID) towards the project.‎

Describing Addu City as a potential hub for development, ‎President Yameen emphasized the special priority attached by his ‎Government for the development of Addu City. Continuing on, the ‎President shared with the people, the on-going and proposed ‎ ‎developmental ‎projects for the atoll.‎ ‎

In this regard, the President underscored the Government ‎endeavours to upgrade the health care mechanism and education system of ‎the city. The President further highlighted the Government efforts to ‎expedite the road construction project and to facilitate employment ‎opportunities for the youth.‎

Stating that his Government is committed to bringing a positive ‎transformation of the country, the President emphasised that the ‎Government would work towards easing the challenges faced by the people.‎

The function was attended by the Minister of Tourism, Hon. ‎Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor, and Member of the Parliament for Feydhoo ‎constituency, Mr. Ibrahim Didi.‎
