President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has on Sunday evening ‎presented award to the Best Student Athlete for 2013. The award was ‎presented at the ‎School Colours Award 2013 ceremony held on Sunday evening. School ‎Colours Award was introduced by the Ministry of ‎Education, in recognition ‎of students’ high achievement in sporting activities.‎

Speaking at the awarding ceremony held at Dharubaaruge, ‎President Yameen said that life was incomplete without schooling, and that ‎schooling was incomplete without sporting. ‎

In this regard, the President spoke of the importance of recognizing ‎the talent and skill demonstrated by the students in sports, within the ‎schooling system. Continuing on, the President said that taking part in ‎sports was not something that would tax school time, but rather instills ‎time management skills and teaches responsibility to students.‎

In his speech, President Yameen advised all students to hunt for ‎jobs relentlessly, upon completion of high school. Reiterating the ‎Government’s commitment to facilitate the youth with employment ‎opportunities, the President said that the youth must have the enthusiasm ‎and zeal in pursuing jobs. The President also noted that it was sports that ‎taught life skills such as competitiveness, leadership, team work, and ‎confidence.‎

At the function held this evening, awards for first place winners of ‎School Colours Award 2013 in the under 14 age group were presented by ‎Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed, while the award for first place ‎winners in the under 16 age group were presented by First Lady Madam ‎Fathimath Ibrahim. President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom presented ‎the School Colours Award 2013 for first place winners in the under 18 age ‎group, in addition to the Best Student Athlete Award.
