President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has made the following revisions to the mandate of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, beginning from June 24 2014:
1. The Department of Heritage, which had previously operated under the Ministry of Youth and Sports, will now function under the Ministry of Education.
2. The Department of Labour Relations, which had previously been under the authority of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, will be transferred under the Ministry of Economic Development.
3. The Ministry of Economic Development will also take over the Government’s mandate of overseeing the hiring and labour relations functions in the Maldives, which had previously been under the responsibility of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
4. The Government’s efforts to tackle human trafficking in the Maldives, which had previously been mandated to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, will here on be assigned to the Ministry of Economic Development.
5. The Ministry of Home Affairs will acquire from the Ministry of Youth and and Sports, the authority of establishing and implementing media guidelines in the Maldives, as well as the responsibility of developing, registering, and internationally representing the Maldivian media industry.
6. The mandate of publicly disclosing the information required to compile the official calendar of the Maldives will be transferred from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.
