President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has this afternoon departed on an official visit to Japan, on the invitation of Prime Minister Shinzō Abe of Japan.
During his visit from 14th – 17th April 2014, the President would meet with His Majesty Emperor Akihito, Prime Minister Shinzō Abe, and other senior Ministers of the Japanese Government, and hold discussions in further improving and expanding the excellent relations between the Maldives and Japan. During the visit, President Yameen would also meet with business leaders and potential investors with a view of further expanding economic opportunities for Maldives in Japan.
Prior to his departure, the President met with the local media at the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport, and underlined the highlights of his visit. The President noted that Japan has always been an important development partner to the Maldives, and briefed the media on plans to discuss future developmental projects with the Japanese Government and its private sector.
The Presidential Delegation also include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Ms. Dunya Maumoon, Minister at the President's Office, H.E. Mr. Mohamed Hussain Shareef, Minister of Economic Development, H.E. Mr. Mohamed Saeed, and Minister of Tourism, H.E. Mr. Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Ghafoor.
