New Ambassador of the European Union accredited to the Maldives, Mr. David Daly presented his letter of credence to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, this morning.
At the ceremony held at the President’s Office to present credentials, President Yameen congratulated Ambassador Daly on the commencement of his term, and expressed hopes for the continuation of good working relations with the European Union.
Meeting the new Ambassador after the ceremonial presentation of credentials, President Yameen noted that maintaining trade relations with the EU countries has always been vital for the growth of the Maldivian economy.
Highlighting the political turbulence the Maldives went through recently, the President briefed the Ambassador on the measures being taken in strengthening the social fabric of the country.
At the meeting, Ambassador Daly expressed the EU’s commitment to work with the Government of Maldives, and assured that the EU would continue its collaboration with the Maldives.
President Yameen was joined at the call by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Dunya Maumoon, Minister at the President’s Office, Hon. Mohamed Hussain Shareef, and Mr. Abdulla Hameed from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
