Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has said the foremost duty of the Government is to make Islam the national identity of the Maldives, and to strive to uphold that identity. The Vice President made this remark while speaking at the graduation ceremony of the Centre for Holy Quran. The ceremony was held this morning at Islamic Centre.

Speaking in this regard, the Vice President said it was the Government’s main aim to create awareness among the people to maintain the national identity.

Underling the threats the country may face in abandoning the islamic identity in the name of development, Vice President said it will bring failure and misery to the nation.

In his speech Vice President remarked that the country’s dignity could not be enhanced by disrespecting the Quran and Sunna. He also noted that the country will not prosper by seeking alternative solutions outside the Quran and Hadith.

The Vice President further said his administration would ensure the preservation of religion, peace and security of the country, by familiarizing and disseminating knowledge of the Quran and Hadith in the Maldives.

In his speech, Vice President Jameel urged the Graduates to sincerely serve the nation.

He also expressed his appreciation to Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, for his contribution towards the establishment of the Centre for Holy Quran.
