Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has said that peace and social stability was integral to boost patriotism. The Vice President made this remark while speaking at the official function held to mark the country’s National Day.
In his speech, the Vice President pointed out that patriotism would be upheld in a self-sufficient and just society, and that today, patriotism was linked to achieving the people’s dreams. He said that without improving the living standard of the people, or realizing their aspirations, the true essence of patriotism would not be felt.
The Vice President highlighted the great sacrifice made by Bodu Thakurufaanu, the national hero the day commemorates, to change the living standards of the people, to bring an end to the distressing situation, and to establish justice and stability among the people. He noted that Bodu Thakurufaanu was a shining example of patriotism, who succeeded in achieving the people’s dreams, serving the country honestly, sincerely, and loyally.
In his speech, the Vice President also appealed to everyone to cooperate with the government in providing public services.
