The visiting Chief Army Staff of Nepal, General Gaurav Shumsher Jung Bahadur Ranar has paid a courtesy call on President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
At the meeting held at the President’s Office this morning, the President and General Ranar discussed the close friendly relations existing between the Maldives and Nepal, and ways to enhance these relations in the years ahead.
President Yameen and General Ranar further explored ways of expanding cooperation between the two countries in strengthening the defense and security sectors of both the countries.
Highlighting that both countries shared issues of mutual concern in areas of national and regional security as small and developing countries of the SAARC Region, President Yameen underscored the need to work closely in addressing these issues.
General Ranar briefed the President on the ongoing exercises between the MNDF and Nepalese Armed Forces. He also assured that the Nepalese Army would continue to work closely with the MNDF.
President Yameen was joined at the call by the Minister at the President’s Office, Hon. Mohamed Hussain Shareef and the Chief of Defence Forces, Major General Ahmed Shiyam.
General Ranar was joined at the call by the Quartermaster General, Major General Rajendra Chhetri and ADC to Chief of the Army Staff, Major Gelong Lama.
